Custom Queen and King RV Mattresses

Choosing the correct mattress size for your RV or camper is essential for both comfort and proper fit. RV bed platforms are often different from residential beds, which makes understanding mattress dimensions especially important. At Tampa Mattress Makers, we specialize in building custom RV mattresses, including camper king mattress size and RV king and queen mattress size options, designed to fit your space accurately and provide long-lasting comfort.

Tampa Mattress Makers builds custom RV mattresses to your exact measurements, from a short queen (60″ x 75″) up to a full RV king (72″ x 80″), with angled, notched, or radius corner cuts for tight camper and fifth-wheel layouts. Prices start at $249, most builds ship in about two weeks, and every mattress is handcrafted in Florida.

What Is an RV King Mattress Size?

An RV king mattress is designed specifically for recreational vehicles where space efficiency matters alongside comfort. Unlike a residential king mattress, an RV king is narrower, so it fits properly inside RV bedroom layouts. The most common RV king mattress size measures 72 inches wide by 80 inches long.

This size provides ample sleeping space for two adults while maintaining clearance for walkways, storage, and slide-outs inside the RV. Because RV manufacturers use different floor plans, RV king mattress dimensions can vary slightly. Measuring your mattress platform before ordering helps ensure a precise fit.

What Is a Camper King Mattress Size?

Because campers are generally smaller than an RV, the camper king mattress size is typically shorter as well, measuring 72 inches by 75 inches. This size is commonly used in campers, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. Some camper layouts include angled corners, rounded edges, or shortened platforms. In these situations, an RV short king mattress is recommended to ensure proper support and eliminate gaps that can affect comfort and mattress longevity.

Why Custom RV King Mattresses Matter

custom-rv-mattress

A mattress that does not fit properly can shift, wear unevenly, or interfere with storage access. Over time, this affects sleep quality and durability. Tampa Mattress Makers builds custom RV queen, king, and camper king mattresses to address these challenges from the start.

Each mattress is handcrafted using premium materials selected for support, comfort, and long-term performance. Our mattresses are built one at a time, allowing us to control quality at every stage of production.

Built for snowbirds, full-timers, and weekend travelers

How you use your rig changes what you need from a mattress. A snowbird who parks a fifth-wheel in a Florida RV park from November through April sleeps on it every night for six months, so pressure relief and cooling matter as much as they would at home. A full-timer lives on that bed year-round and needs it to hold up to constant use without sagging. Weekend campers want something that fits the odd factory cutout and still feels good after a five-hour tow.

We build for all three. Tell us how many nights a year you’ll sleep on it and how you like your bed, and we match the comfort layer and support core to that before we cut the shape to your platform. Snowbirds heading to parks around Tampa Bay, Sarasota, and Fort Myers can order before they arrive and pick up in Palm Harbor or Venice, or arrange delivery.

Mattresses for fifth-wheels, travel trailers, and motorhomes

RV floor plans aren’t standardized, so two rigs both labeled “king” can need different mattresses. Fifth-wheels and travel trailers usually put the bed in a front or rear slide with one or two angled corners to clear the cap or a wardrobe, where a short king (72″ x 75″) or short queen (60″ x 75″) with an angled cut solves most of them. Class A and Class C motorhomes tend to use a short queen or an RV king, sometimes with a radius corner near a slide-out. Truck campers and vans run smaller and more irregular, and often need a fully templated shape.

If you’re replacing a factory mattress, the size printed on the old one is a starting point, not a guarantee. Measure the platform yourself, because trailers flex and factory foam compresses over the years. Our RV mattress fitment guide walks through the measurements, and the mattress size chart covers standard dimensions if you’re comparing against a home bed.

How to Measure for a Custom RV King or Queen Mattress Size

Accurate measurements help ensure the best possible fit.

  1. Measure the width of the mattress platform

  2. Measure the length from head to foot

  3. Identify any angles, curves, or cutouts

  4. Measure available height if storage or clearance is a concern

If your platform has an unusual shape, creating a simple template can help achieve precise results.

Reasons to Order a Custom RV Mattress from Tampa Mattress Makers

We are a local, family-owned company that understands the importance of high-quality USA materials. Our products are highly rated by national health and sleep publications, such as Sleep Foundation and Sleep Doctor. Say goodbye to mass-produced mattresses and discover a custom-fit, highly comfortable mattress fitted to your camper or RV.  Adventure awaits, but it doesn’t mean comfort has to.

Every custom RV mattress uses the same CertiPUR-US and GREENGUARD Gold certified materials we put in our home beds: breathable coils, gel memory foam, or natural latex, depending on the feel you’re after. That breathability counts in a sealed, humid rig sitting in the Florida sun. And because dialing in firmness from measurements alone isn’t always perfect, your build is covered by our 100-night comfort adjustment, so we can re-tune the feel after you’ve actually slept on it. Custom RV mattress FAQs

How much does a custom RV mattress cost?
Custom RV mattresses start at $249 and rise with size, comfort layer, and support core. Because we build each one by hand and sell factory-direct from our Florida workshop, a custom-fit RV mattress usually costs less than a comparable name-brand model, corner cuts included.

How long does a custom RV mattress take to build?
About two weeks from order to ready-for-pickup or delivery. Angled, notched, and radius corner cuts take the same lead time, so a snowbird can order a few weeks before heading south and have the bed waiting.

What RV mattress sizes do you make?
Any size you measure. The most common are RV short queen (60" x 75"), RV short king (72" x 75"), and RV king (72" x 80"), but we build to your platform exactly, including non-standard widths and lengths for older or imported rigs.

Can you cut angled or rounded corners for a fifth-wheel or camper?
Yes. Angled, notched, and radius corners are routine on fifth-wheels, travel trailers, and boats. Send measurements or a simple template for one, two, three, or all four corners, and we sculpt the interior materials and sew the cover to match.

Do you ship RV mattresses outside Florida?
We deliver across Florida from our Palm Harbor and Venice showrooms and offer free store pickup. For full-timers and snowbirds outside the state, our sister brand custommattressmakers.com ships custom RV mattresses nationwide.

What if the mattress feels too firm or too soft after it’s built?
You’re covered by our 100-night comfort adjustment. Once you’ve slept on it for a couple of weeks, if the feel isn’t right we’ll add, remove, or swap padding at no charge for labor or materials, so you end up with the firmness you wanted.
