Sizes and shapes we build

The four mattress shapes we build
Standard Rectangle
The typical mattress shape. Custom or standard sizes; just give us width and length.
Angled Corner
Common in RVs and campers. One, two, three, or all four corners angled to fit.
Notched Corner
For four-poster beds where the posts stick out. We cut around them so you keep full sleeping surface.
Radius Corner
Popular in RVs, boats, aircraft, and antique beds. Rounded corners; foam-only construction.
Custom mattresses by material
Any custom size can be built with the construction that fits how you sleep. Our four collections (Value, Silver, Gold, Black) carry the same comfort options at different price points.
Custom foam mattress
High-density polyfoam core with comfort layers tuned to your firmness. Light enough for RV weight limits and a good fit for radius-corner shapes. Available in any custom size from 20 inches wide up.
Custom memory foam mattress
Gel-infused memory foam comfort layer over a poly support core. Pressure relief for side sleepers and joint pain. Built in custom dimensions and standard sizes.
Custom latex mattress
Natural latex comfort layer, responsive and breathable. Popular with hot sleepers and anyone who wants a mattress that lasts 12-15 years. Custom sizes available.
Custom hybrid mattress
Pocketed tempered-steel coil core with foam or latex on top. The most adaptive option for heavier sleepers and couples. Custom sizes from short queen up to RV king.
Custom RV mattresses
Short queen, RV king (72×80 and 72×75), three-quarter, bunk, 5th-wheel cuts, V-berths, Class B van sleepers. Bring us the platform dimensions with any corner cuts measured, and we build to match. We have made thousands of RV mattresses since 1995. Tampa Mattress was voted Best RV Mattress 2025 by Sleep Foundation and Sleep Doctor.

Custom van and Class B mattresses
We have several builds that work for Sprinter, ProMaster, Transit, and Class B conversions. Skip the cheap imports; ours hold their shape on uneven roads and handle Florida humidity without breaking down. Most van builds use the radius-corner or angled-corner shapes shown above.
Custom mattresses for boats and yachts
V-berth, mid-cabin, and aft-cabin sleeping areas all have unique shapes. We build custom boat mattresses (rectangular, angled, V-shaped) in foam-only construction so the mattress flexes through narrow companionways during installation. Sailboat berths, yacht beds, and houseboat platforms all welcome.
Custom bunk bed and trundle mattresses
Standard twin or full bunk mattresses are easy. The harder ones are custom widths, low-profile heights (under 6 inches for clearance), or non-standard lengths. We build all of them. Trundle mattresses get the same treatment, including the slimmer 5-inch profile that stores easily under a daybed.
Custom sofa bed and daybed mattresses
Sofa bed mattress replacement is one of our most-requested custom builds. Standard sofa-bed mattresses are 4 to 5 inches thick and built to fold; we make replacements in queen, full, twin, and any custom size. Daybed mattresses, including outdoor patio daybeds, are typically a standard twin but the firmness and depth can be customized to fit the look you want.
Antique bed mattresses
Three-quarter (48×75), four-poster, sleigh, captain’s bed. Bring us the interior dimensions of the frame and any height limits. We build for Victorian, Edwardian, and mid-century antique frames almost daily. Many old frames need the notched-corner shape to fit around posts; that is no extra charge.
European-size mattresses
EU King (160×200 cm), Grand King (180×200 cm), Small Double (120×190 cm), EU Single (90×200 cm), and other European standards. If you have a frame from overseas, we will match the metric size to the closest sleep surface that fits. Lead time is the same two weeks.
Waterbed replacement mattresses
Done with the waterbed? We build a conventional mattress sized to your existing waterbed frame so you do not have to replace the whole bed. Hardside frames typically need a slightly oversized mattress to fill the rails; softside frames are closer to standard sizing.
Custom mattress toppers
Sometimes a topper is the right answer, not a new mattress. We build custom-size mattress toppers in foam, memory foam, or latex, in any width and length you need. Common requests: short queen toppers for RV beds, antique-bed toppers, and oversized toppers for combined twins (two twins pushed together to make a king).
Other custom-size mattresses
Bunk beds, day beds, window seats, reading nooks, lounges, boat berths, aircraft, sofa-bed inserts, dog beds, even custom Murphy bed mattresses (see our Murphy bed mattress page). If you can measure it, we can build it.
How to measure your bed for a custom mattress
- Remove the old mattress and measure the platform inside the bed frame. Width first, then length, both in inches.
- Measure any corner cuts. If a corner is angled, measure from where the angle starts on one side to where it ends on the other.
- Note any height limits. RVs, daybeds, and antique beds often have a maximum mattress thickness (commonly 8 to 10 inches).
- Note any radius corners. Place a piece of paper over the corner and trace it; bring that to the showroom.
- Call, email, or visit. Read about our proper mattress support recommendations while you wait.
Custom box springs
Non-standard size box springs are available too. Widths from 20 inches to 78 inches and lengths from 50 inches to 83 inches. Built and shipped from our woodworker partner in Ohio. Lead time around two weeks. See the full box springs and frames collection.
Why a Clearwater-built custom mattress
Frequently asked questions
How much does a custom mattress cost?
Pricing starts at $249 for our Value collection and runs up to $2,999 for the Black collection. The number scales with size, comfort layer (gel memory foam, natural latex, high-density polyfoam), and support core (tempered steel coils, foam encasement, hybrid). Submit our quote form with your dimensions and we will respond within one business day.
What sizes can you build?
Any rectangle from 20 inches wide to 78 inches wide, by 50 inches long to 84 inches long. Heights from 5 inches up to 14 inches. We also build angled-corner, notched-corner, and radius-corner shapes for RVs, boats, and antique frames. See our mattress size chart for reference dimensions.
How long does a custom mattress take to build?
About two weeks from order to ready-for-pickup or delivery. RV corner cuts, antique notch cuts, and radius shapes take the same lead time. We will give you a firm ship date when you place the order.
Can you build a mattress to fit my RV?
Yes. Short queen, RV king (72×80 and 72×75), three-quarter, bunk, 5th-wheel, corner-cut, and radius-corner shapes are routine for us. Pull the old mattress, measure the platform inside the bed frame in inches, note any corner cuts, and call or email with the numbers. We were voted Best RV Mattress 2025; we know what works.
Do you build custom mattresses for boats?
Yes. V-berth, mid-cabin, and aft-cabin shapes are all custom-buildable. We typically use foam-only construction so the mattress flexes through narrow companionways during installation. Bring us a template or sketch of the shape.
What materials can the custom mattress be made from?
High-density polyfoam, gel memory foam, natural latex, or hybrid (foam plus tempered-steel pocket coils). All comfort layers are CertiPUR-US certified. The Silver, Gold, and Black collections offer progressively more premium materials at higher prices.
Do you ship custom mattresses?
In-state delivery from the Palm Harbor and Venice showrooms (or factory pickup at Clearwater). For shipping outside Florida we route the order through Custom Mattress Makers, our online sister brand, which ships UPS to the lower 48.
Can I adjust the firmness after I receive it?
Yes. Our 100-Night Comfort Adjustment lets us re-tune your mattress firmness within 100 nights of delivery at no charge. We open the cover, sanitize, add or remove padding layers, and ship it back to you.
What is your warranty?
10 years against manufacturing and material defects. The 100-Night Comfort Adjustment runs in parallel. See our store policies for full warranty terms.
Do you have a showroom?
Two showrooms. Palm Harbor serves Tampa Bay; Venice serves Sarasota and the southwest coast. Both have the full custom-size order desk and standard mattress collections on display.
