Clearwater Mattress Store
Built in Clearwater, Sold Factory-Direct Across Pinellas
Tampa Mattress Makers builds every mattress it sells in a Clearwater workshop, then sells it factory-direct with no distributor and no commission floor in between. The showroom is at 3460 Tampa Rd in Palm Harbor, about eleven miles up the road from downtown Clearwater. Beds start at $249, delivery covers Clearwater and the beaches, and every mattress comes with a free 100-night comfort adjustment.
Where your mattress is actually made
Most mattresses sold in Clearwater were made somewhere else. They come off a production line in another state, move through a distributor, and land on a retail floor with three margins already added. Ours are cut, filled and closed by hand a short drive from where you’ll sleep on them.
That’s not a slogan about local pride. It changes what we can do for you. A mattress built two counties away arrives in the size the factory decided to make. A mattress built here can be 58 inches wide because that’s what your boat berth measures, or five inches thick because that’s the clearance under your camper cabinet, or firmer on the left than the right because you and your partner disagree.
Two generations of the same family run the workshop and the showroom. The person who talks you through the build knows what’s inside it. Our foams carry CertiPUR-US certification, the materials meet GREENGUARD Gold limits for chemical emissions, and the timber in our foundations is FSC certified.

Where to lie on one before you buy
The Palm Harbor showroom is at 3460 Tampa Rd, in the plaza on the north side of the road about three-quarters of a mile east of US 19. It’s a 1985 strip center with a Publix and a Walmart Neighborhood Market on the same stretch, roughly 216 parking spaces, and you’ll park within thirty feet of the door. Visits are by appointment, Monday to Saturday, on (727) 772-9023.
Appointments are not a sales tactic. It means the showroom is yours for the hour rather than shared with four other couples and a queue for the popular bed. Come in what you’d sleep in, lie down in your normal position, and give each mattress a few minutes. Thirty seconds perched on the edge tells you nothing. If you sleep with someone, come together, because a bed for two is a compromise you can only reach side by side.
Custom Mattress Makers, our online sister brand, also runs an appointment-only factory store on 49th St N in Clearwater for RV and camper builds, on (727) 615-8608.
Four collections, one workshop
- Coral, from $249. The entry build, two-sided, honest, and the reason our price list starts where it does. It goes into guest rooms, rentals and bunks more than anywhere else.
- Silver, from $399. Tempered-steel innerspring support with better comfort layers. The everyday choice.
- Gold, from $799. Gel memory foam and natural latex over a reinforced coil core. Our most popular tier by a distance.
- Black, from $1,449. The flagship. Best materials we can buy, built to hold its feel for years rather than seasons.
Adjustable bases start at $899 and boxsprings at $69. The mattress size chart lists exact dimensions if you’re measuring a room rather than a boat.
Berth mattresses for the Clearwater waterfront
Pinellas County has 51,042 registered vessels, second only to Miami-Dade in the state, and 8,878 of the pleasure boats are 26 feet or longer. That’s the length where a boat stops having a cushion and starts having a bed.
Almost none of those beds are rectangles. A V-berth narrows to a point. A mid-cabin tucks under the cockpit sole with maybe twenty inches of headroom. An aft cabin rounds off at one corner to clear a bulkhead. Factory berth cushions are usually four inches of the cheapest foam that will hold a shape, which is survivable for a weekend and miserable for a week.
Bring us the measurements for a custom-size mattress, or trace the actual shape onto a sheet of cardboard and bring that. We build to it, in the same materials as the bedroom collections. Radius corners, tapers, notches, split hinges for a berth you have to fold to get through the companionway. Owners come to us from Clearwater Harbor Marina and the Island Estates slips, from the Clearwater Yacht Club on Bayway Boulevard, and from the dry stacks at Marker 1 over in Dunedin.
The same workshop builds the RV and camper mattresses we are better known for. If you trailer instead of berth, the Seminole Street ramp has eight lanes and the Belleair Causeway ramp has ten, and we’ve built for boats that launch at both.

Built for a Gulf-coast summer
The weather station at St Pete-Clearwater airport records an average high of 89.9F across June to September and an average overnight low of 75.5F. August is the worst of it at 90.6F and 76.3F. Nearly two thirds of the year’s 53.6 inches of rain falls in those four months, and the air conditioning runs most of the year.
A mattress that sleeps fine in a dry climate can sleep clammy here. Natural latex has an open cell structure that moves air rather than holding it, and gel memory foam pulls heat away from you instead of reflecting it back. A tempered-steel coil core leaves space for air to move through the middle of the bed, which a solid foam slab cannot do.
The GREENGUARD Gold certification matters more on this coast than most places, for an unglamorous reason. Florida bedrooms stay shut with the AC running from May to October. Whatever your mattress gives off, you breathe for five months. A breathable mattress protector helps on the humidity side without sealing the bed in plastic.
Delivery across Clearwater and the beaches
A local moving crew handles delivery and pickup. The mattress, foundation and frame are carried in and set up in the bedroom, the packaging leaves with them, and they’ll take the old mattress and boxspring away if you want it gone.
We deliver across the city and the barrier islands: downtown and the Cleveland Street district, Harbor Oaks and Old Clearwater Bay, Skycrest and Morningside, Countryside and Coachman Ridge in the north, Clearwater Beach, Island Estates and Sand Key over the causeway, and out to Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Largo and Belleair. Call the showroom for current pricing to your zip code.
Rather not pay for delivery? Our roll-packing machine compresses any mattress except the Coral models into a sealed bag that fits in a back seat, at no charge. Most of our beds run tempered steel coils, so an ordinary packing machine won’t touch them. Ours runs two high-strength hydraulic presses and four chain-driven motors, and we’ve packed roughly 2,000 mattresses through it. A king coming out the size of a duffel bag still gets watched.

Sleep on it for 100 nights
Every mattress includes the 100-night comfort adjustment, which we’ve run for three decades. Give your body two weeks to adjust to a new bed. If the feel still isn’t right any time up to night 100, we open the mattress and add, remove or replace padding until it is, with nothing charged for labor or materials. The bed gets fixed rather than replaced, and you don’t lose several hundred dollars to a guess about firmness.

Getting to the showroom from your part of Clearwater
Everything below ends the same way, on Tampa Rd heading east, with the plaza on your left about three-quarters of a mile past US 19.
From Countryside it’s the short one, 4.4 miles. Take SR 580 west to US 19, north to Tampa Rd, then right. Ten minutes unless US 19 is having a bad afternoon.
From Dunedin, seven miles straight up Alt US 19. Bayshore Boulevard turns into Palm Harbor Boulevard somewhere around the county line without you noticing, and Tampa Rd is the turn.
Safety Harbor is seven miles too. Main Street onto McMullen Booth, north until it hits Tampa Rd.
From downtown Clearwater, eleven miles. The route most locals take is Myrtle Avenue north to Sunset Point, east to Belcher, north to US 19, then Tampa Rd. Allow half an hour in season.
From Feather Sound and the 33762 zip, thirteen miles over the Dillinger McCabe Bayside Bridge, then McMullen Booth Rd north to Tampa Rd.
From Clearwater Beach, fourteen miles and the least predictable. Memorial Causeway to Chestnut, north on Myrtle, and pick up the downtown route. The causeway is the variable, not the drive.
From Largo, thirteen miles: East Bay Drive to Keene Rd, north to Sunset Point, then as above. Straight up US 19 is about the same. Take whichever you know.
Shopping from further south? The Venice showroom carries the same lineup, and all our locations sit on one page. Parking here is a 216-space open lot right in front of the units, so whatever the beach is doing on a Saturday, you will not circle for a space.
Clearwater mattress store FAQs
Do you have a store in Clearwater?
The workshop is in Clearwater and that’s where your mattress gets built, but the retail showroom is at 3460 Tampa Rd in Palm Harbor, about eleven miles north of downtown Clearwater. Visits are by appointment, Monday to Saturday, on (727) 772-9023. Our sister brand Custom Mattress Makers also runs an appointment-only factory store on 49th St N in Clearwater for RV and camper builds.
How far is the showroom from Clearwater Beach?
Fourteen miles, and the honest answer is that the causeway decides how long it takes rather than the distance. Off-season you’ll do it in half an hour. On a Saturday in March, leave more. Book an appointment and we’ll hold the slot.
Do you deliver to Clearwater and the beaches?
Yes, across the mainland and over the causeway to Island Estates and Sand Key, plus Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Largo and Belleair. A local crew carries it in, sets it up in the bedroom, takes the packaging away, and removes your old mattress and boxspring if you want that done. Free roll-pack pickup is available on every model except the Coral.
Can you build a mattress for a boat berth?
Often. V-berths, mid-cabins, aft cabins, tapers, radius corners, and hinged splits for a berth that has to fold to get through the companionway. Send measurements, or trace the shape onto a sheet of cardboard and bring that in. Same materials as the bedroom range.
What does a mattress cost?
From $249 for the Coral, $399 for Silver, $799 for Gold and $1,449 for the Black Collection. Adjustable bases start at $899 and boxsprings at $69. Building and selling it ourselves is what keeps those numbers roughly half of a comparable name brand.
What if it feels wrong once it’s in the house?
You have 100 nights. Sleep on it a couple of weeks first, because most bodies need that long to stop noticing a new bed. If the feel is still off after that, the 100-night comfort adjustment means we open the mattress and add, remove or swap padding until it’s right, with no charge for labor or materials.

Carol RobertsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. High Praise for Tampa Mattress Makers - Superior Product & Superior Customer Service Our experience with Tampa Mattress Makers has been excellent. This family owned and operated business provides high quality mattresses at affordable prices. Bill Lamirande, who helped us in the Venice store, is very knowledgeable, kind, and patient. With his support, we found the bed that meets our needs. The delivery team was courteous and careful. We highly recommend Tampa Mattress Makers. We are very happy with our new bed! Valerie BolognaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It hasn't been a month yet since I purchased the Westchase Medium Firm King mattress and box spring from Tampa Mattress Makers. However, I am so glad I chose them. From the very first time I walked into their store to the delivery, Bill and Jack have been fantastic to do business with. I am very fussy with mattresses and the one I chose is perfect for my husband and I. I highly recommend checking them out. Deena BerberichTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. If I could give this business 10 stars I would. We had an excellent experience at Tampa Mattress. This is a local, family owned business. We were greeted by Bill when we walked in and he explained how the mattresses are constructed and we could see that they use high quality materials. He took his time with us and explained the differences between all of the mattresses and the bases. Their mattresses are customizable and their pricing is very competitive. Each mattress is made to order by family members in just a few days at their St. Pete facility. Delivery went very smoothly with Jack and his delivery partner. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to be home when the mattress and base were being delivered so my husband had them set the adjustable base a little too high for me. I called the store and Bill explained how to lower the base and even offered to come over when he left the shop that night or to have his son Jack come over on his day off. We were able to lower the base ourselves, but are very grateful for the superior Customer Service that was provided. I will never go anywhere else to get a mattress. I highly recommend this business to anyone looking for a new mattress. gabriella faulknerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jack at the Venice store of Tampa Mattress offered probably the best customer service I have received in decades. His attention to detail, his enthusiasm and sincere desire to remedy my back pain issues, while adhering to my limited budget; every aspect of my highest hopes were achieved and surpassed. He even delivered it same day at no additional charge. I am certain that because this is a family owned and operated business, and that his father and sister were also a part of the team, is why I was treated with such respect. It did not go unnoticed. Bravo, Jack. Godspeed.❤️ Sue SkoglundTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a wonderful experience with Tampa Mattress Makers! Bill Lamirande was very personable & did a wonderful job in explaining how their mattresses are made all American materials with no products from China & each mattress is made to order. We did check out Mattress Firm after our time in Tampa Mattress Company & just walking into that store, you could smell the chemicals & the mattresses just felt cheap. They offer an exceptional warranty & the customer service spot on! Thanks Bill! jerry forrestTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Tampa Mattress (Bill) was very helpful in our getting the right Mattress for our teak bed made in Asia. They know their product well and are focused on your needs. Results, a beautifully made product that we are very happy with! Lee and Jerry Shannon BurkeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our salesman was Bill. We had a fantastic experience with him in finding our perfect mattresses for our camper. The bunk beds had a custom size with an angle in the corner. He was able to match them perfectly. The comfort was a huge upgrade from the standard mattresses that come in a camper. It is just as comfortable as sleeping at home. We also purchased a custom queen for the main bedroom. We couldn’t recommend this place higher. James FoleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great experience with Tampa mattress makers! Couldn’t have been happier with the process and the staff! Definitely would recommend getting your mattress from them!
